Fence & Leaves

I always find it a challenge to shift creative gears from sweeping landscapes to shooting details in a city or town setting. We visited Woodstock, Vermont, a great “New England” town, replete with little art galleries, great restaurants, and a town square. After parking and walking around a bit, I started to focus on the hand carved shop signs, and the building colors, the leaves on the ground and the ornate porches and fences full of pumpkins and other harvest icons.

Found this fence running along a house, all the leaves from a tree nearby had piled up along its vertical whiteness. Bright yellow and red leaves sat against the wood. Simple composition, but I like the lines of the fence against the chaotic nature of the leaves. Order and disorder captured in one frame.
