Lightning Strikes

Always loved lightning.

Not a big fan of it when its lighting up the sky close to me, but I love the smell and sounds that precede a thunderstorm. And the light that follows is usually magic light.

Was out shooting Balanced Rock in Arches National Park at dusk and off in the distance the rumble of thunder and flashes of lightning could be seen and heard. Wasn’t too long before rain started falling on me and my fellow shooter Daniel. Glances of “time to go” started to appear, as the rain started coming down harder and the lightning over the valley started buzzing a bit too close… but then suddenly the rain stopped, and the storm seemed to hold itself a few miles away.

Amazing show followed.

Nature’s fireworks display… simply Awesome.

  1. SOOOO beautiful! I was just standing outside last night at 12 midnight trying to catch the strikes locally – not half as beautiful since it was pitch black of night, but I know just how hard these are to catch just right as you have. You’re amazing!

  2. Yes we could have been soft and ran to the car as soon as it started raining, but I knew this tough New Yorker would see it through till the end.
