Baby Joey’s at the Children’s Zoo

If you have kids, highly recommend stopping in at the Children’s Zoo at the Bronx Zoo. There they can feed the goats, see peacock’s just walking around, and watch these Joey’s. The little guy was born earlier this year, and wouldn’t come out from his Mom’s shadow for longer than a second. Where she went, he went. Period. Just like a real little kid hanging onto Mom’s shirt.

Oh yeah, they also have a Big Tree “Slide” which my youngest would have went up and down 100 times (if he had his choice) 🙂

Enjoy!

More Primates from the Bronx Zoo

“Primate week continues here this week only on the Rowland Photography blog!”

If you look up the definition of “cute” in Websters, I really think they might have this guy’s picture next to the text. Inquisitive, focused… you name it~ he captures ALL the range of emotions. I wish my human subjects could be as interesting at times… 🙂 I did fail in my photo mission… I usually snap a quick pic of the “species board” so I remember who was what and what was who, but with a 3 and 6 year old in tow, time was of the essence, and short of running through the zoo, I could only snap and move on. So I am at a bit of a loss on the type of monkey this guy is…

But, next time I go, I want to spend a bit more time with my very close chromosome companion… he/she is the very definition of “photogenic”

Enjoy!

The Bronx Zoo TWO~ Monkey

While this guy is super cute, the story behind this image is the amazing technology which makes this image possible. Shot at ISO 1100, my 70-200mm racked out to 200mm, f2.8, 1/2000 sec. There was a little noise in the image, but NIK’s define 2.0 (noise reduction app) got rid of it, without having to resort to a final Noiseware (another noise reduction software made by Imagenomic) makeover. This is where the D3 really shines. If this had been my Canon 40D, the amount of noise would have been unbearable, now shooting at 1100 means, there might still be a bit of graininess, but its manageable, and the clarity of the image, well… take a look at the monkey’s face and eyes… even at this low-web resolution, still pretty sharp… By the way, this must have been the ONLY moment I was watching this guy where he sat still, most of the time he was a running, jumping, leaping, well… monkey 🙂 Enjoy!

The Bronx Zoo…

Back in the day, a good report card from school meant a trip to Friendly’s for a Chocolate Fribble. Doing well has it’s rewards! And yesterday we took the boys to the Bronx Zoo for a year end celebration, and treat for outstanding report cards.

Of course, the camera came along and there were tons of photo opps… Spent a-lot of time in the “Congo” with the Gorillas. Not only are they really photogenic (is there an ugly Gorilla????), but their sense of humor and interactions brought huge laughs from the boys. While I was worried about reflections off the glass enclosure, turns out that its fine shooting as long as the Gorilla’s remained away from the glass… too close, and you began to get shirt reflections of people standing next to you.

If you’ve never been to the Bronx Zoo, would highly recommend it. Enjoy!
